Artist spotlight : Carola Deutsch
Artist Statement:
Austrian artist Carola Deutsch, born in Graz, has been working professionally as an independent artist since 2012. Following her formal art education, she has established a name for herself over the past decade with painting, large-scale murals, and tattoo art.
At the heart of her work is the human figure - a symbol of emotion, experience, and inner movement. Through vivid color and expressive energy, her works invite viewers to immerse themselves emotionally in her stories.
“My art constructs spaces of resonance that reflect our existence as human beings. The environment surrounding the protagonist is just as important to me as the attributes that accompany her,” Deutsch explains. Since 2023, she has significantly evolved her technique: switching from acrylics to oil paint has given her visual worlds a deep, atmospheric background.
Her studio, located in the heart of Graz, offers collectors and art enthusiasts access to her vibrant vision. Ongoing exhibitions complement her tattoo and mural projects, highlighting the breadth of her practice. Her works are represented across numerous European cities and beyond, including New York, reflecting the growing international reach of her distinctive artistic voice.

Inspiration & Style
What initially inspired you to become an artist, and how did you develop your unique artistic style?
From an early age I felt a strong need to express my emotions and thoughts visually. Drawing and painting were always a very natural way of communicating for me. Over time, my style developed through experimentation with color, movement, and figurative elements. The human figure became the central element of expression in my work.
Creative Process
Do you have any rituals or routines that help you get into a creative mindset when starting a new project?
Before starting a new work, I take time to observe and reflect. Photographic references help me define my vision, especially regarding contrasts and light-shadow relationships. I usually begin intuitively, allowing colors and forms to emerge freely before the composition gradually takes shape.
Artistic Influences
How do you balance historical or artistic influences with your personal style, and how do these influences manifest in your work today?
I am inspired by expressive painting as well as contemporary urban art. Rather than copying influences directly, I translate their energy into my own visual language. This creates a balance between traditional expressive power and my personal contemporary interpretation.
Emotion & Expression
How do you use your art to evoke emotions, and what role does emotion play in your creative process?
Emotion lies at the core of my work. I aim to create a space of resonance where the environment of the protagonist is as important as her expression or attributes. My art is not merely a depiction, but an atmosphere. Through color dynamics, entire worlds emerge, inviting the viewer to explore their depth.
Exhibiting Work
How do you feel about exhibiting your artwork with The Holy Art Gallery, and what does this opportunity mean to you?
Exhibiting at The Holy Art Gallery is a wonderful opportunity to present my work to an international audience. Platforms like this create encounters between different artistic voices and allow an inspiring dialogue between art and viewers.
Future Goals
What are your long-term goals and aspirations as an artist, and how do you plan to achieve them?
I am currently working on a new series of paintings for an upcoming exhibition. My goal is to continuously develop and advance my artistic language. The past years, especially my transition from acrylics to oils, have provided me with invaluable input and fresh inspiration
Audience Connection
What do you hope viewers take away from experiencing your art, and how do you aim to connect with them on an emotional or intellectual level?
What brings me the greatest joy is when my art speaks and resonates with others. Once, at an exhibition, a client told me, “Carola, your artwork in our living room inspires me every day.” That deeply moved me and shows how art can emotionally reach people.
