ARTIST STATEMENT:

My work explores the relationship between structure, emotion, and inner transformation. Through expressive color, strong form, and textured surfaces, I aim to create a sense of balance between intensity and harmony.

Animals often appear in my work as symbolic presences, reflecting strength, vulnerability, and awareness. The recurring element of the butterfly represents transformation, freedom, and the unseen shifts within us.

I am interested not only in what we see, but in what we feel and intuit beyond the visible — creating images that invite stillness, reflection, and emotional connection.

1. Inspiration & Style

What initially inspired you to become an artist, and how did you develop your unique artistic style?

Art has always been a natural form of expression for me. Growing up in Zimbabwe, I was deeply inspired by nature, vibrant colours, wildlife, and the emotional energy found in everyday life. Over time, painting became more than creativity — it became freedom, healing, and transformation.

My style developed organically through experimentation with oil paints and palette knife techniques. I am drawn to bold texture, expressive movement, and rich colour palettes that evoke emotion. My work combines contemporary impasto techniques with symbolic elements from nature such as butterflies, tigers, bees, florals, and organic forms that represent resilience, joy, freedom, and peace.

2. Creative Process

Do you have any rituals or routines that help you get into a creative mindset when starting a new project?

Before I begin painting, I usually spend time visualising the emotion I want the artwork to communicate. Music, quiet reflection, and surrounding myself with inspiring colours and images help me enter a creative state. I often build layers intuitively, allowing the painting to evolve naturally rather than forcing a strict plan. Texture and movement guide me emotionally through the process.

3. Artistic Influences

How do you balance historical or artistic influences with your personal style, and how do these influences manifest in your work today?

I admire expressive artists who paint with emotion and courage, particularly those who embrace texture, colour, and freedom of movement. While I appreciate traditional techniques, I always reinterpret influences through my own emotional lens and life experiences. My work is deeply personal and contemporary, blending expressive abstraction with symbolic realism in a way that feels authentic to me.

4. Emotion & Expression

How do you use your art to evoke emotions, and what role does emotion play in your creative process?

Emotion is at the centre of everything I create. Every painting begins with a feeling — whether it is strength, hope, peace, transformation, or liberation. I use colour, texture, contrast, and movement to create emotional energy within the work. My goal is for viewers not only to see the artwork but to feel something deeply personal when they experience it.

5. Standout Projects

Can you share a project that stands out to you and describe the creative process behind it?

One project that stands out to me is a deeply symbolic self-portrait representing freedom and transformation after a difficult chapter in my life. The painting features expressive butterfly wings and bold palette knife textures in greys, limes, and turquoise tones. It symbolises walking out of darkness and into strength and peace. The process was emotional, intuitive, and incredibly empowering because it reflected both vulnerability and resilience.

6. Feedback & Growth

How do you incorporate feedback from critics or audiences into your work, and how do you balance this with your own artistic intuition?

I value thoughtful feedback because it helps me grow and see my work from different perspectives. However, I believe authenticity is essential in art. I listen openly while staying true to my intuition and emotional connection to the work. The balance comes from remaining open to learning without losing my own artistic voice.

7. Motivation & Inspiration

How do you stay motivated and inspired, even when facing creative blocks or challenges?

Nature, travel, personal experiences, and emotional growth continuously inspire me. During creative blocks, I allow myself space rather than forcing creativity. Sometimes inspiration returns through observing colour in nature, visiting galleries, listening to music, or simply resting. I have learned that creativity flows best when approached with patience and trust.

8. Exhibiting Work

How do you feel about exhibiting your artwork with The Holy Art Gallery, and what does this opportunity mean to you?

I feel honoured and excited to exhibit with The Holy Art Gallery. Opportunities like this allow artists to connect with an international audience and share meaningful work across cultures. Being part of a creative platform that celebrates contemporary art is both inspiring and motivating, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share my artistic journey.

9. Future Goals

What are your long-term goals and aspirations as an artist, and how do you plan to achieve them?

My long-term goal is to continue growing internationally as an artist while creating work that emotionally resonates with people. I hope to participate in more exhibitions across Europe and beyond, expand my collector base, and continue evolving my style through experimentation and emotional storytelling. I plan to achieve this through dedication, consistency, and remaining authentic in my creative journey.

10. Audience Connection

What do you hope viewers take away from experiencing your art, and how do you aim to connect with them on an emotional or intellectual level?

I hope viewers feel freedom, joy, peace, and emotional connection when they experience my work. I want my paintings to remind people of resilience, beauty, transformation, and the emotional power of art. Even when words fail, art has the ability to communicate deeply human emotions, and I hope my work creates that connection.
