FREDERIC LÉNA

I have been drawing and painting since childhood. These practices have accompanied me throughout my studies in graphic design, and it was during that time that I deepened my work with Bic pen drawing and Indian ink. At the same time, I created many oil paintings—using both knife and brush—mainly depicting landscapes of the Loire, vineyards, and familiar natural elements. Starting in the 1980s, I began exhibiting my work in local art salons and exhibitions. Gradually, my work evolved into a more introspective exploration, marked by metaphysical questions. In 2017, a significant encounter with French astronauts and an astrophysicist profoundly transformed my artistic approach. Inspired by this experience, I began a new creative phase centered around astrophysical concepts, specifically the movement of particles in the universe. This led to the creation of the series “Matrices”, acrylic paintings in which I express my poetic and intuitive vision of the cosmos. These works are then digitized to become the foundation of a digital project initiated in 2019: “My Expanding Universe.” This constantly evolving piece, begun from a single starting point (the first particle) on a black background symbolizing the void of space, develops over time using motifs extracted from my original paintings. Every December, I extract fragments from it, which I print on rigid supports (Dibond©), and then rework them by hand using acrylic and phosphorescent paint. These physical pieces, unique and interconnected, form my “Cosmic Rhythms.” This project is both a continuously expanding work and an artistic commitment: it will only end when I do.
