Artist spotlight : ARMENI ANTONIA
Antonia Armeni, was born in Germany to a Greek father and a Spanish mother. Seventeen years ago, after her children had grown up, she attended painting classes that reignited her passion for art. Soon after, she opened an art studio in the heart of the old town of Corfu, a place that became her haven of inspiration and creativity. This marked the beginning of her artistic journey, which has now spanned over six years, dedicated passionately to the realms of abstract art and iconography. These two distinct yet profoundly connected forms of art allow her to explore and express the depths of her creativity and spirituality.
Inspiration & Style
What initially inspired you to become an artist, and how did you develop your unique artistic style?
I believe that I always carried the flame of an artist within me. It was something quietly present, waiting for the right moment to fully emerge. However, it was after having children that this flame truly grew stronger and more conscious. By that time, I had lived through many life experiences—motherhood, love, challenges, joy—and all of that shaped the way I see the world and express it through art. I believe that every painting I create carries layers of those emotions and stories, transforming personal experiences into visual narratives that connect with others.
Creative Process
Do you have any rituals or routines that help you get into a creative mindset when starting a new project?
Every new project begins with inspiration. For an artist, everything can become a source of inspiration. I see something, I feel something, I hear something—I experience the world through all my senses. A landscape, a sound, a moment of silence, or even a passing emotion can spark the beginning of a new series. When I see a beautiful scenery, I may create a collection of canvases; when I hear the sound of rain while reading a book, it instantly inspires me. This deep sensory connection is why my paintings always carry a story behind them—each one shaped by emotion, memory, and atmosphere.
Artistic Influences
How do you balance historical or artistic influences with your personal style, and how do these influences manifest in your work today?
I don’t see historical or artistic influences as something separate from my personal style, but rather as elements that naturally blend into it. Inspiration comes to me through experience and emotion, and over time those experiences have been shaped by art, history, and life itself. As an artist, everything around me becomes a source of inspiration—I see, hear, and feel the world through all my senses. These influences manifest subtly in my work through atmosphere, storytelling, and emotional depth rather than direct references. Each painting carries layers of feeling and memory, allowing my personal perspective to remain at the core while being enriched by the echoes of artistic traditions and lived experience.
Emotion & Expression
How do you use your art to evoke emotions, and what role does emotion play in your creative process?
As I’ve already mentioned, emotions and feelings are the starting point of my creativity. Every piece begins with an emotional response—to a moment, a sound, a memory, or an atmosphere. I allow myself to fully experience these emotions and translate them onto the canvas through movement, color, texture, and rhythm. Emotion guides my creative process from beginning to end, shaping both the story behind the work and the way it is visually expressed. My goal is not to dictate what the viewer should feel, but to create a space where emotions can be sensed, remembered, and personally interpreted.
Exhibiting Work
How do you feel about exhibiting your artwork with The Holy Art Gallery, and what does this opportunity mean to you?
I feel incredibly excited about exhibiting my artwork with The Holy Art Gallery. I truly love the potential of this exhibition and the opportunity it creates to share my work with a wider audience. Being part of this experience means a great deal to me, and I am genuinely looking forward to seeing my art presented in such an inspiring space.
Future Goals
What are your long-term goals and aspirations as an artist, and how do you plan to achieve them?
My long-term goal as an artist is to exhibit my work around the world and connect with diverse audiences through my art. I aspire to share my visual stories across different cultures and spaces, allowing my work to travel and evolve. I plan to achieve this by continuously creating, staying true to my artistic vision, and seeking opportunities that align with my values—such as international exhibitions, collaborations, and galleries that support artistic growth and meaningful expression.
Audience Connection
What do you hope viewers take away from experiencing your art, and how do you aim to connect with them on an emotional or intellectual level?
I hope that viewers feel something personal when they experience my art—a memory, an emotion, or a sense of connection. My aim is to create works that speak through atmosphere and feeling rather than explanation, allowing each viewer to interpret the piece in their own way. By layering emotion, story, and sensory experience into my paintings, I seek to connect with people on both an emotional and an intuitive level, inviting them to pause, reflect, and find a part of themselves within the work.
