Artist spotlight : Catherine Stolz-Robert
ARTIST STATEMENT:
Catherine Stolz-Robert is a Brooklyn based Swiss-American artist. Born in Neuchatel, a town in the French speaking part of Switzerland, Catherine nurtured and cultivated her interest for fashion and interior design by reading magazines and visiting museums. Her inspiration comes from nature, childhood memories, traveling and the pop art movement. Catherine likes her artwork to be three dimensional, so that each piece is almost a sculpture on the wall; using materials that are soft to the touch or shimmering. Objects that shimmers add a spark to life and make an ordinary day less ordinary. Catherine also does more realistic artwork in watercolor/pencil depicting her favorite flowers and objects dear to her heart.

1. Inspiration & Style
What initially inspired you to become an artist, and how did you develop your unique artistic style?
Answer: My father Yves is my inspiration, as during his free time he used to draw and also do watercolors. I developed my unique creative style throughout the years visiting museums and traveling, using different materials and experimenting with them.
2. Creative Process
Do you have any rituals or routines that help you get into a creative mindset when starting a new project?
Answer: I go to my art studio in Bushwick, Brooklyn. I feel creative there as it is quiet and bright, and I can dedicate my time to create artwork with no distractions.
3. Artistic Influences
How do you balance historical or artistic influences with your personal style, and how do these influences manifest in your work today?
Answer: I like the pop art movement. My favorite artists are Andy Warhol and Claes Oldenburg. The vibrant colors and the playfulness of the pop art movement inspired me to create my own artwork using materials and objects that inspire me.
4. Emotion & Expression
How do you use your art to evoke emotions, and what role does emotion play in your creative process?
Answer: I like my artwork to be colorful as I believe that the choice of colors and materials can impact someone's mood. I'm drawing inspiration from my childhood; things that I liked growing up, like Chupa Chups, and turned it into art, evoking the spirit of fun.
5. Standout Projects
Can you share a project that stands out to you and describe the creative process behind it?
Answer: Cool Pops is a project that stands out for me. I love the colorful wrapping paper. I got the inspiration from one of Daniel Hirst's artworks with the colorful dots. Instead of dots, I used Chupa Chups. I love all the songs and everything that shines, so I applied gold leaves in the background with bright pink, yellow and added some rhinestones.
6. Feedback & Growth
How do you incorporate feedback from critics or audiences into your work, and how do you balance this with your artistic intuition?
Answer: Whenever I work on an artwork, I take pictures, then I show it to my friends and family and ask for feedback. Based on the feedback, I might make a few modifications or continue on my original idea.
7. Motivation & Inspiration
How do you stay motivated and inspired, even when facing creative blocks or challenges?
Answer: I like to go to art museums. I'm looking forward to visit the Guggenheim in NYC, as there is an exhibition of Guggenheim Pop: 1960 to now. If facing creative blocks or challenges, I go for a run. I'm presently training for the NYC Marathon in 2026. I like running as it clears your mind and shifts the focus to be in the present and think positive.

How do you feel about exhibiting your artwork with The Holy Art Gallery, and what does this opportunity mean to you?
Answer: I'm thrilled and very excited to exhibit my artwork with The Holy Art Gallery. This opportunity means that my artwork will be viewed by a wider audience, and I'm very pleased with that.
9. Future Goals
What are your long-term goals and aspirations as an artist, and how do you plan to achieve them?
Answer: My long-term goal would be to be represented by an art gallery in New York City. I have not figured it out yet on how to achieve this goal.
10. Audience Connection
What do you hope viewers take away from experiencing your art, and how do you aim to connect with them on an emotional or intellectual level?
Answer: I'm hoping that viewers will feel happy after seeing my artwork and that it will prompt them to ask me questions. I would be delighted to answer them.
