ARTIST STATEMENT:

My name is Florian, and I began my artistic journey as a 3D artist before discovering my passion for 2D illustration, which eventually led me to food art.

I create digital illustrations inspired by everyday dishes, snacks, desserts, cakes, and the many foods that capture my attention or that I discover during my travels. Working primarily in Procreate, I enjoy experimenting with new techniques and occasionally incorporating 3D elements into my illustrations to create depth and visual interest.

Through my work, I aim to celebrate the beauty of food, the joy it brings to people, and the rich diversity of cultures and cuisines around the world. I hope my illustrations encourage viewers to appreciate not only the appearance of food but also the stories, memories, and connections that every dish can represent.

1. Inspiration & Style
What initially inspired you to become an artist, and how did you develop your unique artistic style?
Answer: I became an artist because I grew up playing video games and always dreamed of creating art for them and being part of that world. That’s why I initially pursued a career in 3D art. After some time, however, I realized that I enjoyed the artistic and creative side much more than the technical aspects. I began experimenting with different forms of 2D art until I eventually discovered food illustrations.

2. Creative Process
Do you have any rituals or routines that help you get into a creative mindset when starting a new project?
Answer: Most of the time, I find inspiration when I go out to eat. Every meal has the potential to become my next illustration. Sometimes I feel like painting drinks or fruit, while other times I’m inspired by cakes or full dishes. I don’t usually plan my subjects in advance so it all happens very spontaneously.

3. Artistic Influences
How do you balance historical or artistic influences with your personal style, and how do these influences manifest in your work today?
Answer: My biggest influence comes from what I see around me. Most of my references are photos that I’ve taken myself or from chefs that i find on instagram, which gives me a strong understanding of how I want the final artwork to look. My background in 3D art has also helped me a lot with perspective, lighting, and color composition. I take inspiration from many different experiences, but what I observe in everyday life is always my greatest source of inspiration.

4. Emotion & Expression
How do you use your art to evoke emotions, and what role does emotion play in your creative process?
Answer: Mostly through color and contrast. It’s not something I consciously plan too much, but I enjoy using vibrant colors and lighting to create a certain mood and make the food feel appealing.

5. Standout Projects
Can you share a project that stands out to you and describe the creative process behind it?
Answer: One of the artworks I’m most proud of is my Summer Parfait illustration. It combines a 3D created background with a 2D illustration, allowing me to develop a unique visual style. This approach gives me much more freedom with lighting, composition, and the overall quality of the finished Artwork.

6. Feedback & Growth
How do you incorporate feedback from critics or audiences into your work, and how do you balance this with your own artistic intuition?
Answer: I always share my finished illustrations on social media to see how people respond and what I can improve in future projects. At the same time, I know that art is subjective and everyone has different tastes and preferences. I appreciate constructive feedback, but I always stay true to my own style because, in the end, I want to create artwork that I’m happy with.

7. Motivation & Inspiration
How do you stay motivated and inspired, even when facing creative blocks or challenges?
Answer: I have a wonderful art community on Instagram and have met many talented artists who have helped me grow. I also enjoy collaborating with other artists because it allows me to see different perspectives and learn new approaches through working together.

8. Exhibiting Work
How do you feel about exhibiting your artwork with The Holy Art Gallery, and what does this opportunity mean to you?
Answer: I’m excited to have my work exhibited and shared with new audiences, especially in Tokyo since I currently live in Japan. It’s a great opportunity to present my artwork in a professional exhibition setting.

9. Future Goals
What are your long-term goals and aspirations as an artist, and how do you plan to achieve them?
Answer: My goal is to spend more time developing my sticker and trading card projects and eventually make a full-time living from my illustrations and products. At the moment, I’m experimenting with different card textures and holographic finishes to create a unique experience for collectors.

What do you hope viewers take away from experiencing your art, and how do you aim to connect with them on an emotional or intellectual level?
Answer: I want to show that inspiration can be found in everyday things. Even ordinary food can become something visually interesting through art. I also hope to encourage other artists to experiment, develop their own style, and create what they truly enjoy, because I believe everything else comes naturally when you’re passionate about it.
