ARTIST STATEMENT:

I create oil paintings inspired by my personal life and self expression. I use paint to materialize what I am feeling, from melancholy to joy. I paint with a surreal impressionism fusion style, because I love to combine dynamic brushwork with strange dreamscapes. I hope to spread joy through creation, and inspire others to be bizarre.

1. Inspiration & Style
What initially inspired you to become an artist, and how did you develop your unique artistic style?
Answer: I’ve always been inspired by surrealism and impressionism, and I think Magritte and Van Gogh have been the biggest influences to my personal style.

2. Creative Process
Do you have any rituals or routines that help you get into a creative mindset when starting a new project?
Answer: To get myself in a creative mindset before painting, I like to doodle with a marker for about 20 minutes. The marker forces me to be confident and intentional with my lines, and doodling in small chunks of time relieves any creative pressure.

3. Artistic Influences
How do you balance historical or artistic influences with your personal style, and how do these influences manifest in your work today?
Answer: When it comes to my style, I do often take inspiration from historical references and other artists, but I prioritize my personal vision, and practice creativity through boredom to maintain that skill.

4. Emotion & Expression
How do you use your art to evoke emotions, and what role does emotion play in your creative process?
Answer: My art is always made from an emotional place, as creation is my outlet, as well as my passion and career, and I feel patrons are moved by pieces infused with real feeling.

5. Standout Projects
Can you share a project that stands out to you and describe the creative process behind it?
Answer: The piece I'm exhibiting with Holy Art, titled “Bunny”, is one I'm particularly proud of. It was originally a sketch I made, while working as a body piercer, as tattoo design practice. I fell in love with the sketch, and spent a year painting it, using thin layers to achieve the wetness and texture of the slime, teeth, and tongue.

How do you incorporate feedback from critics or audiences into your work, and how do you balance this with your own artistic intuition?
Answer: I always love hearing feedback about my work, and I especially love feedback from other artists as it can be so mind-opening. When it comes to my work, I try to focus on just enjoying myself.

7. Motivation & Inspiration
How do you stay motivated and inspired, even when facing creative blocks or challenges?
Answer: Whenever I experience a creative rut, I always go back to drawing in marker. It helps relieve any pressure I might feel to produce good works.

8. Exhibiting Work
How do you feel about exhibiting your artwork with The Holy Art Gallery, and what does this opportunity mean to you?
Answer: I discovered The Holy Art Gallery through a fellow artist friend exhibiting in Paris, and it was wonderful. The gallery is a step up from anything I’ve done before, and it’s exactly what I’m looking for, so I had to apply when they advertised London. I’m so overjoyed that I am able to share my work with more people, and hope to continue collaborating with The Holy Art Gallery.

9. Future Goals
What are your long-term goals and aspirations as an artist, and how do you plan to achieve them?
Answer: My long-term goal as an artist is to be able to sell my art reliably to be able to support my work, and I’m growing ever closer to my goal through consistent work on my website and socials, painting more to make my art more accessible via prints, stickers, etc.

What do you hope viewers take away from experiencing your art, and how do you aim to connect with them on an emotional or intellectual level?
Answer: I hope audiences have fun looking at my art. I have so much fun making it, and I enjoy sharing that joy through my art. I’m always fascinated by how people react to my work, and it’s always a pleasure to create something that someone feels so strongly about. My work consists of surreal depictions of animals, personified with the intent to encourage empathy, and set in worlds people wish they could live in.
