Romita Munshi
Pragyaparomita (Romita Munshi) is an artist based out of Mumbai who draws inspiration from the rich stories of people, personal experiences and the fluidity of the world around us. She views art as a negotiation between the internal self and the external world - a process of mapping how identity is shaped, fractured and redefined by the chaotic interplay of societal and cultural forces. Her ideas take shape through research, gallery and museum visits and are often influenced by conversations with people, travel, literature and language learning. She tries to capture the contrast between human emotions and the complexities of the world they inhabit. Through her practice, she tries to explore the themes of identity and connection and deepen her understanding of these complexities to answer the question “How do we define ourselves in a world that is increasingly wanting to define us”. Her creative process, which often begins with spontaneous sketches and her own poetry, is drawn from personal observations and reflections, and is often an intuitive and meditative process. During her creative process, she explores the oxymoronic nature of modern existence, often intertwining her personal narrative into the artwork. Through the interplay of often stark and vibrant elements, she aims to invite viewers into a space of introspection, encouraging them to explore their own emotional landscape and celebrate the complexity of becoming human, challenging rigid definitions and embracing the richness of our shared experiences. Other than art, Romita is also a published author and has published her first book of poems titled ’Cacophonic Contemplations’. She continues to talk about her creative process and other things creative on her blog as well.
